He also stated that humans were not exempt from this process because, humans, like all organisms, are a part of nature, and thus we are forced to recognize that evolution is natural. This resulted in social Darwinism, a belief that the term ?survival of the fittest? does not only apply to animals, but humanity as well, and led to many other ideas like Eugenics, by Sir Francis Galton, who believed that the poor and insane should be sterilized because they were undeserving of life. Another good example of social Darwinism is Karl Pearson, who believed that some races were superior to others, and the inferior races deserved to die because they would delay the advancement of the human species. Because people trusted more in scientific fact than their own faith this caused many people to have doubts about creationism. The Catholic Church officially rejected evolution because it challenged traditional beliefs that people were created by god. Before Darwin, Catholicism hadn?t really been challenged by scientific fact. This new wave of thinking heavily influenced by Darwin had people believing that religion was a thing of the past. Creationism was how the world was started by god, and Darwin?s theory was that it was done by natural selection. Because religion wasn?t how we came to be on earth, there was no divine intervene. We have no god. Darwin heavily influenced the idea that everything was done through nature, as oppose to a higher power. Because we are just an advanced evolution of animals, we still share some of the same characteristics that they do. This was a big shocker to many because most people during that time were very religious and believed that human nature was kind and loving. They did not want to think that we came from a primitive species. However, there were some that did accept his theory and they helped bring out a new idea that we are animals, and just like our ancestors, we are beasts by nature and we were set upon the earth for no particular purpose.

Diabetes: there are two types, diabetes type 1 is more common in children and can occur in the first week of birth to 30 years of age. It is related to the lack or low insulin production, unable to control the rate of ingested glucose and it is controlled with insulin injections. The type 2 is hereditary and it happens when the cells resist to insulin action, even if its production is normal, and we can control through diet and medication. Cystic Fibrosis is caused by an inoperative gene, which causes the body to produce odd thick and sticky mucus. The mucus builds up in the breathing passages of the lungs and in the pancreas, an organ that helps to break down and absorb food, and the result can be lung infection that are life-threatening and serious digestive problems. The treatments are tablets, diet, exercise and physiotherapy to eliminate the mucus from the lungs. Cerebral Palsy is a brain injury, induced by the lack of oxygenation in the brain and it can develop during pregnancy, childbirth or during childhood. It is a disorder that involves the brain and the functions of the nervous system, such as movement, hearing, learning, seeing and thinking forever. Children with chronic diseases might share similar experiences despite differences in symptoms and severity; they tend to be pain and discomfort, insufficient growth and development, frequent trips to doctors and hospitals, daily care and sometimes with painful treatments, or medical care, and fewer opportunities to play with other children. It can frustrate the dreams the parents had for their child, the increased spending of the treatment to do, a complex system of care, the loss of opportunities (e.g. when a parent cannot return to work), social isolation, the parent’s distress trying to deal and live with a child with chronic disease can interfere with the bond between parents and between the child and his family. Parents might feel distress to learn that the child as an abnormality, they might also feel a great impact of sadness, depression, guilty, anxiety, etc and these feelings can occur at any time during the development of the child and each parent can react differently, which can cause inconsistencies disciplinary and behavioural problems. A parent working, where cannot support the other in the visits to the doctor or hospital. Parents should be completely familiar with the illness of their child. The collaboration between physicians, social workers, chid cares and others can be very beneficial for the child, parents and their family. There are groups that can help them to find a family that has already faced a similar problem and who is willing to talk to new parents and offers them their support. DAWN The social justice group DAWN (disabled woman’s network Ontario) is a province wide organization of woman with all types of disabilities. They are a feminist organization which supports woman in their struggle to control their own lives. Dawn Ontario is controlled by women with disabilities. The members include woman with disabilities and non-disabled woman. Also included are lesbians, bisexual woman, aboriginal woman, Franco-Ontarian woman, and woman from many other ethnic, racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds. Woman of all ages, from teens to seniors, are active members of DAWN. They believe that disabled woman have the right to direct their own lives. They also believe that woman with disabilities: have the right to access the services and supports available to all woman; have needs which are different from those of men with disabilities; know best what their needs are; have a right to freedom of choice in all aspects of their live; and can be proud of their dis abilities and have the choice to self-identity. As a group DAWN at Ontario: keep current on issues facing women with disabilities; provide role mode for girls with disabilities; develop resources for girls with disabilities; help start and support DAWN groups across Ontario; speak for the rights of woman with disabilities to make sure they can take part in woman’s groups, activities, events and services; work with other woman’s and disabilities groups; produce resources about health care for woman with disabilities; lobby for the government on issues affecting woman with disabilities. On June 17, 1985 17 woman with disabilities from across Canada gathered together to discuss issues of concern. From this meeting, DAWN of Canada was formed. Disabled woman have been persevering since then to build up DAWN on a local and national level. In 1992 DAWN Ontario was formed. Since then they have put out many brochures and the like for information throughout Ontario.
